Chris Rennie Profile

About Me

Chris Rennie has been a member of the Department of Medical Physics at Westmead Hospital since 1986. His main focus has been to support the work of the Brain Dynamics Centre (BDC) of the Westmead Millennium Institute.

His PhD is from the University of Sydney, for work in mathematical modelling of the electrical activity of the brain, which lead to receiving a Eureka Prize in 2003, jointly with his collaborators.

This modelling work overlaps with his interest in how to analyse such data, and involves issues of effective data management, signal processing methods, and fitting to models. His work on biophysics of the large-scale manifestations of brain function connects with the wider theories about neuroscience and psychiatric disorders being developed at BDC.

Modern brain research relies heavily on computers for data acquisition and analysis, and Chris has an ongoing interests in the techniques used for performing psychophysiological recordings of both electrical (EEG) and blood flow (fMRI) changes in the brain.
